Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Jeff Neves

Candidate for
Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator; County of El Dorado

This information is provided by the candidate

I am committed to keeping El Dorado a safe place to live, work and play - not just because it's my job, but because it's my home.

I will make your safety my number one priority. I'll continue to focus on increasing patrols and building partnerships to rid our schools and neighhoods of gangs, drugs and violence. Since 1999 and under my leadership, the sheriff's office has increased staffing by: ten (10) deputy sheriff's, two (2) patrol sergeants, thirteen (13) correctional officers, and two (2) correctional sergeants.

I'll take a tough stand against juvenile crime, violent offenders and those who would commit crimes against children and the elderly. I am currently a Director on the Western El Dorado County Boys & Girls Club, and member of the El Dorado County Elder Abuse Protective Council.

I'll focus on getting the most for our hard earned tax dollars. I changed the way officers are scheduled for duty, avoiding expensive overtime and putting more officers on patrol. During fiscal year 2000/2001, I reduced overtime costs while at the same time increasing patrols.

Through my leadership, patrol officers have received scenario based training to effectively respond to violent incidents at our schools. Our sheriff's office is currently the only department in Northern California offering this style of comprehensive training. Our Office of Emergency Services (OES) has developed preparedness procedures for bio-terrorism, earthquakes, fires and floods incidents. I will ensure procedures are maintained ensuring our safety.

With your support, I'll continue making sure El Dorado County is a safe place for our families.
