Larry was raised right here in El Dorado County and attended El Dorado High, American River and Cosumnes River Colleges in Placerville. He loves the outdoors, enjoys home and family life with his wife, Mimi, and son, Colton.

Larry likes water and snow skiing, and plays on a slow pitch softball team. The Hennicks attend Green Valley Community Church. In Larry's leisure time, he enjoys cutting wood, working on his home, coaching Little League and Cub Scouting with his son.

After a lifetime of preparation, Larry Hennick will make an Excellent Sheriff for our county.

Background

Larry is a 27-year veteran of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. He started out as a Reserve Deputy in 1974. He trained at the Sacramento Law Enforcement Training Center at CHP Headquarters. After his first year on Patrol, he received the honor of being selected as Officer of the Year.

Throughout his career, Larry has worked in and supervised many areas of the Department, including the Custody Division, Patrol, Detective Bureau, Narcotics Investigation and was team leader of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and Reserve Force Coordinator. Larry is currently Sergeant of the Extradition/Transportation Division.

Larry is a local and statewide consultant and training provider to numerous law enforcement agencies, certified by Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) and Standard Training for Corrections (STC). His areas of expertise include arrest, control, self and weaponless defense tactics, baton techniques, narcotics and patrol procedures, First Aid and CPR. Larry has instructed for the Naber Training Institute, The Corrections Center, Koga Institute, teaches Rape Awareness and Women's Self Defense classes at our local college and high schools and several basic POST academies, including EDSO Reserve and California Department of Forestry, where future law enforcement officers prepare and learn from someone who does it and knows it best. Larry's emphasis is on law enforcement hands-on training.

Larry has Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Supervisory POST Certifications, is a graduate of the Supervisors Leadership Institute and has accumulated in excess of 3,000 hours of departmental training. In addition, Larry has a Lifetime Teaching Credential in Police Science. His comprehensive teaching career spans over 25 years.

Larry's comprehensive background, work ethic and dedication are imperative to the leadership of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department and the service and safety of the residents it serves.

After a lifetime of preparation and experience, Larry Hennick will make an excellent Sheriff for our county.
