Budget Squabbling on the BoardBy Yvonne M. (Martinez) CerratoCandidate for Member; Alameda County Board of Education; Trustee Area 7 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Last year the Alameda County Board of Education spent many long hours fighting over the Superintendent's budget.Problems approving the Superintendents budget has been the biggest problem for the board. I reviewed the budget and it looked good. Several outside reviewers also looked at it and found it to be solid. Ultimately the budget that was accepted by the State had few changes from the original one submitted by the Superintendent. In contrast, the budget the Board tried to submit to the State was rejected because it lacked detail. It seems the Board got mired down last year trying to do the staff's job and write their own budget instead of sticking to their job which is to determine priorities. |
