Exciting Future Awaits VUSD

By Velma L. Lomax

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Ventura Unified School District

With the appointment of Dr. Trudy Tuttle Arriaga, our District is on the edge of new and exciting experiences
The only true job that a Board of Education has, other than setting policy, is to hire and/or fire the superintendent. We have recently appointed Dr. Trudy Tuttle Arriaga as our Superintendent. I am so excited about this appointment.

I met Dr. Arriaga over 12 years ago when she was the assistant principal at De Anza Middle School and my daughter was a student there. I knew, immediately, that Dr. Arriaga would someday become a great leader and make a fine superintendent. Her management style parallels mine in that she is all inclusive, insists on communication, and is not afraid to get in and work beside those who are on her team.

With this appointment, I feel that it is critical that we keep the present Board intact. The present Board chose Dr. Arriaga specifically to make changes in the District and I believe that it is imperative that she be able to work with those who have placed their trust in her as a superintendent.

The future is exciting for VUSD and I am committed to work with Dr. Arriaga to see that decisions are made in the best interests of the children, the staff and the community.
