URBAN LIMITS

By Denny Jackman

Candidate for Council Member, Chair 5; City of Modesto

This information is provided by the candidate
Build on who we are!
Throughout California population is exploding. In 1966 when I graduated from Modesto High our city had about 40,000 people. Today, greater Modesto has over 200,000. The county population is approaching half a million. Our major industries continue to be supported by agriculture and our culture continues to be as varied as back yard barbecues or Bach. I like that. I like that so much that I am concerned that a large population increase may eliminate our way of life. That's why I authored the urban limits initiatives called FOOD (Future Options On Development). By taking action now to establish broad based urban limits we can reduce urban sprawl and preserve our way of life and our sense of place. We have the opportunity to design our future! We need to start now. My first act as your representative will be to request a motion that the existing General Plan acreage be adopted as our urban limit.
