Joe F. Almeida

I was born Joe Fernando Almeida in 1960 in Rosais, Velas, Azores to Joe Almeida Junior and Rosa Almeida. I am the second oldest of three brothers. My family came to the United States in September 1966. I attended Los Banos Elementary School from first through eighth grade. For my first year of high school I attended Los Banos High. I spent half of the next year in Mountain View while my brother was ill, and completed the year at Hilmar High School after his death. My last two years of high school were spent at Turlock High School. I later took some courses at Modesto Junior College. I worked at Emanuel Medical Center for approximately three years as a nurse's aide, beginning in the middle of my junior year of high school. After that I worked for one year as a security officer for Modesto City Schools. My wife Linda and I were married in 1979, and had our oldest daughter, Malinda, in 1980. In 1981, I returned to Emanuel Medical Center as a heart monitor technician. My second daughter, Nia, was born in 1985. I have worked at Emanuel Medical Center for the past twenty years. Occasionally, I attend courses regarding my occupation. I have also worked at Memorial Hospital part-time since 1996.
