Pure Water - No Politics

By Chris R. Mickelsen

Candidate for Board Member; Coastside County Water District; 4 Year Term

This information is provided by the candidate
I am committed to ensuring that the water district fulfills its mission to provide residents with an adequate supply of high-quality, fresh drinking water at fair prices, and maintain an ample supply of water for fire protection.

On November 6th our community will vote to set the future course of our water district. Our community deserves an adequate supply of water, not to only sustain and protect our families, but also to keep our parks green, our highway medians blooming, and our agricultural community flourishing.

However, I am concerned that much of the CCWD infrastructure is 50 years old and needs to be replaced. If elected, I will advocate pipeline replacement to begin immediately. The District must get back to its true mandate of delivering the purest water at the best possible price.

Being a third-generation resident of our community, I too am concerned about uncontrolled growth. Growth is an issue that touches us all. However, I do not feel that one's duty as a Director of CCWD is to inhibit growth through the degradation of our water infrastructure. This obviously volatile issue needs to be debated in the proper arena.

Pipeline improvements have been put on hold for the past two years. It is a dangerous policy to jeopardize the infrastructure that sustains and protects our daily lives. District coffers contain the funds to improve our infrastructure, now we need a Board willing to vote in favor of maintaining a level of safety we all deserve.

The timing couldn't be better to bring the Board back to the business of delivering water. The City of Half Moon Bay is currently in the middle of its general plan update, and the County of San Mateo is in the middle of its LCP update. We can work together.

My job as director of CCWD is to work to the best of my ability to serve customers through a public process, open to all. My experience as the owner of multiple small businesses will allow me to apply solid business principles to issues facing our Board. My civic involvement has given me an understanding of our community and a feeling of cooperation.

I promise to work hard to maintain the unique character of this area and to ensure a good quality of life for all citizens and generations to come. I urge each and every person to exercise your rights and let your voice be heard in shaping our future together.
