A fragile infrastructureBy Jack McCarthyCandidate for Board Member; Coastside County Water District; 4 Year Term | |

Conservative management of the CCWD is needed to maintain the region's quality of life. The fragile infrastructure that supports our rare, wonderful quality of life on the coastside is threatened by over-expansion and shortsightedness. As a committed citizen and a journalist with extensive experience reporting on environmental, water and traffic issues, I want to ensure the wise management of a key resource: water. The Coastside County Water District must be responsive to community input, such as the upcoming citizens' referendum on whether taxpayers want to finance a major pipeline expansion - an expansion I believe would be devil's pact setting the stage for unbridled growth and congestion. The district also needs to coordinate strategy on the local and state level to foster limited use of resources that might be lost for future generations. As parents, as business-people, as concerned citizens, we all want a strong, cohesive plan for the coastside's future. If elected to the CCWD, I would bring to the table coalition-building, management and policy skills to help guarantee that end. |
