Open GovernmentBy Matt GrocottCandidate for Councilmember; City of San Carlos; 4 Year Term | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Encourage open governemnt by providing more information to voters and listening to their concernsA key to our democracy is the free flow of ideas and information between government and the people. San Carlos has made some positive steps in this direction with an award winning website and the recently held 'Visioning San Carlos' workshops. But the job is not finished... 1) Once elected, I will resume on a quarterly basis the 'Town Hall' meetings I hosted through San Carlos Grassroots. These meetings will help keep residents informed of the City's projects and plans. More importantly, they will provide a venue for me to continue listening and to hear your views and ideas. 2) I will encourage use of the City website to get information to citizens before decisions are made and voted upon. For example, a monthly report from Community Development Director, Steve Watry, would be a useful addition to the site. 3) I believe it should be easier for you to be heard at City Hall. I will work to change the format of City Council meetings so that Public Comment is moved from the last item on the agenda to the first. You shouldn't have to wait until 11:00 PM before you can speak your views. The City Council needs to know your concerns and opinions as a matter of first priority. |
