Protect our small town. Keep areas natural.By Dana DillworthCandidate for Councilmember; City of Brisbane | |

Protect our small town, not just the small-town atmosphere by keeping densities low and varied housing stock. Keep the Redevelopment Agency out of Downtown. Keep areas natural and magical. In the last ten years we have lost some magical, unblemished wild areas in Brisbane due to planning that "moved the mountain" and deleted natural features to ease development. I would introduce design standards to reduce these impacts and support planning that considers alternatives to this loss. We need to consider issues of self-sufficiency. We have no alternatives to our water supply, sewer treatment,or energy delivery systems. This leaves us in a vulnerable position. The water/sewer plans before the council are based on total build-out but don't include solutions to this vulnerability. I think we should provide incentives for conservation (currently this issue is tabled by the council,) and "smart building" design standards. Brisbane can become a model of efficiency and self-reliance or continue to whine about its neighbor, San Francisco. |
