BALLOT STATEMENTBy Maria Diaz-SlocumCandidate for Board Member; Redwood City School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
This is the Ballot Statement that is included in the Sample Ballot mailed to all registered voters of the Redwood City School District. You might ask, "Why is Maria Diaz-Slocum a candidate for the Redwood City Elementary School Board?" The answer is simple - I want to ensure that all children receive a quality education. If you agree with my goal, I ask for your vote. I want to lead efforts towards high expectations for students and like you I want improved academic achievements. I want clean and safe schools where we provide teachers with the resources they need to deliver quality education. I want schools that function as community centers of learning that are open during the day for students and after school to the community. I will insist on improved communication between parents, students and teachers. As a graduate of local schools, including Menlo College where I received a BS in management, I want to reduce spending on "administrative overhead" and increase spending on direct classroom services. I have contributed to our community by working with the Woodside Foundation and Sequoia High School District. I am a member of the McKinley Institute of Technology Site Council. I will work with the community to bring our educational system into the 21st Century and prepare all our children for their place in the future. Thank you. |
