These contracts do not ensure the best quality service
for citizens of the District
The current ambulance contracts do not meet the
needs of the citizens of the District. Ambulance
response times are too long and the District's sole
ambulance is often dispatched by the County to
locations far outside the District. If possible, the current
contract should be terminated for cause. If termination
is not possible then a far better system needs to be
developed as the leading alternative prior to the
expiration of the present contract. Unfortunately, under
current State law, the County has overriding
responsibility for ambulance service. Therefore, it will
be necessary to lobby heavily with the San Mateo
County Board of Supervisors for them to take a new
direction regarding ambulance service.
