Santa Barbara County, CA | November 6, 2001 Election |
New Priorities During These Uncertain TimesBy Joseph Luke AppletonCandidate for Member of City Council; City of Santa Barbara | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Homeland Defense must be the top priority of every citizen. Every decision, project, program must be made with the thought of our national security and Homeland Defense.September 11 changed our lives forever. We must not allow these events to force us to live in fear. We must, however, respond to the President's call for Homeland Security. My practical experience as a Firefighter, State Certified Hazardous Materials Specialist and Instructor and Critical Incident Management Instructor qualifies me to lead our city council in securing the defense of Santa Barbara. No matter what your feelings on growth, the environment or a "living wage" these decisions and more will have to be made with consideration of our responsibilities, as a community, to Homeland Defense and our nation. I care deeply about about our community and have served the city during each of our most recent disasters. Nothing, however, compares to the challenge we face now. I hope you will support my efforts to ensure the safety of our community and nation. |
