SCHOOLS REFLECT OUR COMMUNITY AND PRIDEBy Alan E. IrishCandidate for Trustee; Orange Unified School District; Area 7 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The newspapers reflect OUSD as a disfunctional district. This does not work for the pride of students, teachers, administrators and the voting public. We need to change the moral direction of the Board to develop a sense of community and pride for our youth.Recently the Sorenson Report indicated that teachers were leaving the district for other than financial reasons. Sorenson refered to tension. My wife and I moved into Orange because of the high quality of education available. There was and should be a mutual trust amongst all who participate and are affected by our educational system. Students need to know there are going to be challenging curriculums that will advance their knowledge so they can function in today's work environments. Their teachers must have an understanding that they will be compensated at or above county averages. Teachers who are liberating the potential of our youth, imparting knowledge, creativity, problem solving skills and reinforcing positive social should be receiving the same feelings from the Board and administration. The teachers should know they are the professionals unto whom we entrust our children's development. The administrators and classified staffs need to know that there is security in their jobs and that they work together formulating longterm plans and making the daily decisions necessary to assist the students, teachers, and parents. Property owners need to feel that others will be desireous of settling within our community and purchasing homes at or above market because of the draw created by a highly respected school system. |
