Ballot StatementBy Barbara HellerCandidate for Member, City Council; City of San Rafael | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Together we have accomplished great things in San Rafael. Downtown is a vibrant area with new housing, businesses, and cultural activities. Dynamic neighborhood plans have been created. Many of our parks are being refurbished. Community policing is making a difference. With these successes come further challenges. As a Councilmember, I fought for new parking facilities, which now will be built. I believe creative traffic solutions such as "traffic calming" in impacted neighborhoods should be considered. The 100 year-old sidewalks and some streets need to be repaired. We must increase housing for those who work in our community. I want to emphasize recreational programs and the Library in the next four years. Together we can encourage closer cooperation between the schools and the recreation department. My dream is for the city and schools to join in building a centrally located swimming pool. We have already created a branch library in the Canal and will add a bi-lingual librarian at the main Library. Now, I want to work with you to expand the Library and ensure that it is open every day. Please vote for me so we can keep San Rafael the best place to live and work. |
