This information is provided by the candidate
In 1999, after retiring from a career in business, I became interested in learning why so many high school graduates were entering the work place with such poor reading, writing, and math skills. To gain first hand knowledge of this problem, I became a substitute teacher in the Salinas Union High School District. For the past 2 years I have taught in all 7 of the district's schools. During this time, I have found many problems that need attention. However, if elected, I will give particular emphasis to the following:
- Reduce class size to a maximum of 25 students
- Improve classroom discipline
- Increase parental participation
I feel that my proven managerial skills, combined with my recent teaching experience, will make me a valuable member of the school board. I am a team player who is commited to working closely with school administrators, teachers, parents and board members to dramatically improve the academic performance of our children.
