VOTE FOR DURAN ON NOVEMBER 6TH

Leadership, Independence, and Tenacity

City Over Budget: This year the city council voted for a budget which was $419,320.00 over the expected revenues. Only City Council Member Ben Traina voted against this budget and stated on the record that this is the first time in his knowledge that Lomita did not have a balanced budget. Ben Traina will no longer be there to vigilantly watch over the spending of your tax dollars. I have the leadership ability, independence and tenacity to ensure that the appropriate corrections to the budget are made and ensure that we balance future budgets.

Emergency Water: Currently we have an emergency water reservoir which is completely inadequate to meet the needs of our city if our main water source becomes unavailable due natural disaster or intentional or accidental contamination. Two years ago the city council started along the planning path of the very costly construction of a new water reservoir above Cypress Street. There are less expensive and more productive plans. Former City Council Member Dave Albert proposed the construction of a pipeline connecting to the large Palos Verdes Reservoir and purchase the water we need in times of emergency. An additional plan would be to use our underground water by building a water treatment plant which can be activated in times of emergency and mixed into our current water supply. If elected I will strongly push for the less expensive and most productive plan.

Senior Citizens: My record of advocacy for senior citizens is clear. For many years I have represented seniors against scam artists and actively sought changes in our State law to protect seniors from foreclosure of their homes. I will not just listen and merely say that I will meet the special needs of our senior - I will act. My goal as a city council member is to build a Lomita Senior Citizens Center. Currently, our seniors have to go as far as Wilmington or Gardena to receive services from senior centers. Our seniors built this city let us not forget them.
