The last few years have seen much progress at Antelope Valley College. If re-elected, I would ensure that progress is continued.
I will continue to foster good communication and cooperation among all groups at AVC. I will advance AVC through outreach marketing, modern technology, increased enrollment, more full-time instructors and classes, improvements at the Lancaster campus, and expansion of facilities and services in Palmdale and other communities in the Antelope Valley. I am committed to excellence in college education in the Antelope Valley. During the last few years we have accomplished a great deal. There is a new Cal State University Bakersfield facility and many four-year degree programs on our campus. We are committed to better service to Palmdale through our new facilities at Plant 42 starting in 2002. We have purchased and activated a new campus-wide computer system, replacing the out-dated and inadequate old system. The new 3-story Business Education building will open in 2002 with 7 large classrooms and 9 labs. The new Technology Building had a ground breaking in September, 2001, and will soon open with one large classroom and 6 labs. Telephone and on-line registration for classes in now available. The new Superintendent/President, Dr. Dan Larios, was hired after a year-long, nation-wide search. He has made an immediate and positive impression on campus and in our community. There has been a major increase in student enrollment since 1997. Full-time faculty and staff employment levels are at all time highs. We successfully completed a six-year accreditation process. A new Women's softball field is now in use, and three new Women's sports teams have been formed.
