I have been a full time resident of Westhaven since 1973. During the time that I have lived in this community I have participated in community activities. I have volunteered my time for the Volnteer Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, the Westhaven Mutual Water Company and the Westhaven Community Services District (WCSD). I have been a volunteer cook at the Volunteer Fire Department Pancake Breakfast since the mid 1980's and can still be found, the second Sunday of the month, cooking sausage and mixing pancake batter early in the morning. Around 1984 or 1985 someone asked me to participate as a member of the Westhaven Mutual Water Company Board of Directors. I have served all but four years since then, either on the WMWC Board of Directors, or the WCSD Board of Directors. I served on the Boards of both during the transition from the WMWC to the WCSD and was one of the people who worked very hard to secure the grant loan funds that allowed the community to improve its water system. In 1986 I took a Water Treatment class that was being offered at College of the Redwoods. When the class was over I passed the test required by the state and was granted certification as a Grade 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator. My understanding of the work that was necessary to bring our system into compliance with State and Federal regulations was greatly enhanced by that class. I continue to maintain certification to this day. |
