Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Ian A. Schatz

Candidate for
Trustee; South Bay Union School District

So, what do I think? (Welcome to Ian Schatz's viewpoints)

I believe that high quality teachers serve one of the most important functions in our society. The role that a teacher can play in determining who a child will eventually become as an adult is second only to that child's parents. (In some unfortunate cases, a teacher may be the only window a troubled child has to see through into our wide, wonderful world.)

Quality teachers, quite creative with limited resources, can provide exceptional educational experiences for our children. When allowed the variety of resources most persons have available to effectively perform their jobs, teachers can exceed even our expectations. To this day, I still revel in my positive learning experiences, and silently thank those teachers who contributed.

I do not believe that technology can replace quality educators, but should be applied sparingly to serve as a tool for educators.

I am an individual thinker, unbeholden to any special interest group except our children. I will always attempt to lend an impartial ear to all sides of a dispute before drawing my own conclusion. When an argument teeters, I will provide more ballast on the side of a child's right to gain a quality education.
