New development effects all of us. It impacts traffic, schools and infrastructure (water, energy and waste water.)It's a simple equation...more development equals more traffic. Every single family residence generates 10 trips a day. Our city strives to maintain a Level C (no waiting at intersections)on all arterial streets. We are running out of right of way to build roads. Our city and the San Ramon Unified School District have, and will continue to have, a good partnership. Although elementary and middle school construction in new areas is on schedule, existing facilities lack the state of the art components and are overcrowded. The burden of increased student population at California High School is extraordinary, and the future is even more troublesome. An additional high school in the Dougherty Vally is years away. It appears energy demands have been met due to the increase in power from the Delta Energy Center and the 2002 Tri-Valley Capacity Increase Project. Time will tell. The next challenge is inadequate water supply. Use of recycled water is paramount for use in city landscaping, golf courses, school property and city parks. Lack of vision and planning for waste water disposal has caused construction impacts in existing neighborhoods. This could happen in other areas. |
