When money is available for faith-based social programs, I will be at the forefront, ensuring that faith-based organizations in the district receive their fair share of federal and state dollars--money for faith-based sponsored after school programs. When money is available for faith-based social programs, I will be at the forefront, ensuring that faith-based organizations in the district receive their fair share of federal and state dollars--money for faith-based sponsored after school programs. As a city councilwoman, I plan to establish a "Rites of Passage" Program for young people, to strengthen families and parenting skills. The faith-based community will always have access to my office. With my position as Director of the Los Angeles Census 2000 Outreach Project, I used it as an opportunity to proactively include churches, like Phillips Temple, CME, in the census effort. "Jan has experience working as a chief-of-staff for the 9th district." says Pastor William Smart, Phillips Temple, CME. "She knows the unique problems that effect the district and has the honesty, integrity and energy to work toward solving them." Convening a faith-based economic summit will be a top priority after I am elected. The summit will bring together churches, government and the private sector to develop immediate strategies and funding sources to resolve our community's issues. I have the background and experience building bridges and coalitions. "Jan is adept at the art of `getting things done' in City Hall and is respected by constituents and elected officials alike." says Kenneth P. Hahn, Los Angeles County Assessor (ret), who has endorsed her campaign. I will create an ecumenical council to establish a formal long-term relationship with my council office. Bishop E. Lyn Brown, Presiding Bishop, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church endorses me. Bishop Brown along with CME Southern California Ministerial Alliance awarded me with the Outstanding Community Service Award, saying, "Your dedication to the Commonwealth in general and African-American and People of Color in particular, deserve public recognition and commendation." Additionally, I have received endorsements from numerous community leaders, such as Reverend Dr. William S. Epps, Second Baptist Church and Reverend Richard and Shirley Adrian. |
