|
Jan Perry Adds LA Times, La Opinion and La Weekly To Her List of Endorsements The momentum is with Jan Perry for Council District 9, after receiving endorsements this week from La Opinion, LA Weekly and the Engineers And Architects Association. They recognize her vision, determination and independence to get things done for the Ninth District. These, along with endorsements from The LA Times, The California Democratic Party, LA Chamber of Commerce and Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters have community leaders and stakeholders aligning with her. Jan will collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to make the city more responsive to the needs of the people living and working in the Ninth District. She will bring a new vision to the Ninth District. She will work hard and bridge downtown to the South Los Angeles community. She will encourage communities of interests--communities interested in affordable housing, converting vacant lots into community gardens and revitalizing the Central Avenue Historic District--to work together. The LA Times says, "Perry has the skills to represent the full Ninth District. She has creative ideas about reusing strip malls for after-school programs, finding ways to bring greenery into old and neglected neighborhoods and working with business interests to spread downtown economic revitalization to benefit the larger district." Jan is determined to improve the quality of life, by ensuring that city services reach all the residents in Ninth District. Her background in Urban Planning and Land Use plus her five years as Chief-of-Staff in the district makes her uniquely qualified to understand the needs of the Ninth and how to get services to its residents. La Opinion says, "We think she has the capability to manage the District%s issues better than anyone else and that she presents the most coherent work plan. We also believe her vision reaches far beyond her own district to include the entire city council." Jan, who is bilingual, has attracted a diverse group of supporters, including stakeholders, leaders from community and faith-based organizations. LA Weekly says, "She has consistently practiced a non-racialist politics. She was one of relatively few local African-American politicos who actively opposed the immigrant-bashing Proposition 187." Jan's diverse list of endorsements include : Elected Officials
Hon. Mervyn Dymally, California Lt. Governor (ret) Organizations
Eli Broad & The Central City Association Religious
