Jill Barad has been active in our community for more than 20 years # working to improve education and services for children, teaching at UCLA and owning a business.

Jill chaired Mayor Tom Bradley's Advisory Committee on Education for six years during the turbulent time when the L.A. School District was under court order to integrate. She was at the forefront of mandating parental involvement in decision-making in the Los Angeles public schools. The Mayor appointed Jill to serve on the prestigious citywide Citizens Advisory Committee on Student Integration (CACSI). She was a founder of The Open School, the first community-initiated magnet school in the L.A. School District.

Jill developed the successful public relations and fundraising strategy for the creation of Para Los Ninos, the child care facility on Skid Row in Los Angeles. She organized the initial fundraising event that introduced the Southwest Voter Registration Project to the corporate community of Los Angeles. She also coordinated many of the highly successful TreePeople fundraising events. Since 1988, Jill has been teaching political public relations, fundraising, and media at UCLA.

Jill Barad has appeared on panels and conducted seminars for numerous political and non-profit organizations, including California Elected Women's Association for Education and Research, California Judges Association, National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC), and the Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee.

Jill Barad was co-host of a weekly radio show, "Sunday Morning with Larry and Jill," dealing with political and cultural issues in Los Angeles.

Jill is on the Board of Directors of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA) and is a member of Friends of Coro, NWPC and Emily's List. She is a Charter Member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and a member of The Executives, a support group for the L.A. Jewish Home for the Aging, where she co-chaired the Annual Awards Dinner. Jill is a member of Democrats for Israel (DFI), the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and the Jewish Labor Committee.

Jill is an active member of the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce and Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association, as well as the Studio City Chamber of Commerce. She is a Sponsor of the Revlon Run/Walk for Breast Cancer, and organizer of the "Walk for the Whisper" against ovarian cancer, and is a member of the National Breast Cancer Coalition. Jill is on the Board of Directors of "Running Scared at CBS" to raise money for the public schools.

Jill Barad has been honored twice by the City of Los Angeles for her distinguished civic leadership. The City of Los Angeles named Jill a "Bicentennial Woman of the Year," and she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the City for her leadership and service.

As the owner of Jill Barad & Associates, she has been involved in consulting and fundraising for numerous non-profit organizations, businesses, political campaigns and elected officials.

Jill Barad has lived in Sherman Oaks for 28 years, raising and educating her three children there. She is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of the Friends' Central School. Jill earned her B.A. at Temple University, with honors in English, and was named an Outstanding Senior Woman.
