As a 39 year resident of District 5, I have proven my leadership in our community and will continue to fight for everyone in our district.
Position Paper Education and Qualifications:

BACKGROUND: An architect/planner and active community leader. Born in San Jose, I lived in the Alum rock area for 39 years. I was interned with my family during World War II, returned to San Jose, raised my family with my wife, Barbara. My four children, Craig, Todd, Sandy and Trent all attended Alum Rock schools, including my wife, Barbara who graduatied from Pala Middle School and James Lick High School.

PROVEN LEADER: As a San Jose/Evergreen College District Trustee and a former East Side Union High School District Trustee, I am the only City Council candidate with proven experience as an Elected Official. I have been appointed by the San Jose City Council to Chair, the San Jose Bicentennial Commission, the Tapestry and Talent, and was appointed Founding Commissioner of the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission.

EDUCATOR: I am the only candidate with more than 20 years of experience leading our local schools. I will work to provide Study Centers at all schools (not only some), expand mentoring and tutoring programs, encourage coordination of city and school, recreational programs. For our students: A seamless Kindergarten to college is my goal.

NEIGHBORHOODS: I will always put our neighborhoods first; make sure BART enhances our neighborhoods; bring more libraries, youth centers in our neighborhoods. I will hold "Town Hall" meetings to make sure your voice is heard at City Hall.

LOCAL SUPPORT: I'm supported by the neighborhoods, community, business, education, civic and organizations leaders, and proudly by the grass-roots citizens, such as you, of District 5.
