Residential Traffic and TransportationBy Bud LoMonacoCandidate for Council member; City of San Jose; District 5 | |

We need to slow down traffic on our residential neighborhoods.Residential Traffic Our children and seniors must be protected from speeders and commercial vehicles cutting through our neighborhoods. We need to slow down the traffic on our residential streets. New state laws allow cities to reduce residential speed limits to promote neighborhood safety. Bud plans on pushing for reviews of the speed limits in District 5 neighborhoods in order to help make the streets safer for pedestrians and bicycle riders. The State of California has also set up a Pedestrian Safety Fund for projects including traffic calming, intersection safety improvements and crosswalk construction or improvements. In addition, the State is expected to renew a Safe Routes to School Grant Program that it initiated 2 years ago. San Jose did not apply for any of these grants despite the many school-area traffic safety problems in San Jose. Bud believes San Jose should aggressively apply for these grants and will work hard to ensure District 5 receives its fair share of these dollars to help make our neighborhood and school-area streets safer for walking and bicycling.
