Biography of Covina Council Member Kevin Stapleton
I am independent of Covina's political factions, owe no favors, and will continue to do what's right for our community.
I live and work in Covina, with my wife Vikki, and our four children, all of whom attended Covina Public Schools. The youngest, K.D., is currently a student at Sierra Vista Middle School. I have been a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, and put myself through school, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Doctorate in Law.
My history of service to Covina and our residents over the years includes, but is not limited to, being a long time volunteer of elderlaw services for Covina's Seniors at the Joslyn Center, an active volunteer in and on behalf of Covina's residents and businesses, and an involved member of the Covina Chamber of Commerce. I have served as a Barranca Elementary School representative to the CVUSD/GATE Parent Council, a Covina representative to Citrus-Valley Health Partners Cabinet, and Head Coach of 200 kids in Covina Bowl's Youth Program. I also have served as the Mayor of Covina, the Mayor Pro Tem, Covina City Council representative to our Library, the Cultural Arts Commission, Southern California Association of Governments, Council of Governments, League of California Cities, Independent Cities Association, California Contract Cities, Los Angeles County Santiation District and L.A. Works (formerly the East San Gabriel Valley Consortium).
Presently, I am involved as an officer of an organization called "Are You OK", a program designed to ensure Covina's seniors have assistance available in case of an emergency.
As a member of the Covina City Council, I have brought common sense, broad experience and a conservative economic approach to City government. I was the decisive vote in reducing the utility tax by over 8%, and am fighting to win support for a further reduction of over 9%. Because I have no axe to grind and am independent, I am fair and reasonable in working on your behalf on the City Council
Since I live here, work here, and have a daughter still in public school here, I am totally committed to the betterment of Covina. Being close at hand means I am available by phone or in person to discuss your concerns when it's convenient for you, not just at Council meetings.
It's time to stop the political payback games and micro-managing that has chased away quality employees and prevented Covina from moving forward. It's time to restore experienced, dedicated and capable leadership to City Hall.
It's time to elect Kevin Stapleton to the Covina City Council.
Thank you for visiting this site and for your interest in Covina's future.
