By Edmund C. "Ed" Barnum

Candidate for Board Member; Pasadena Unified School District; Seat 3

Candidate Statement as it will appear in Sample Ballot
Children of Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre are not getting the education they need. The current school board will not acknowledge the district's short-comings. Let's do so, and move ahead with a firm vision backed by a fast-tracked schedule and a targeted budget to give our kids what they need to succeed.

As a Citizens Oversight Committee member for the past three years, I have monitored expenditures for the Measure Y School Bond and learned a lot about the district. I have attended hundreds of board and committee meetings. I have climbed every roof to see firsthand the repairs that were needed. I have met with architects, project managers, school teams, and administrators. Throughout this process, I have urged master planning, budgeting, and parity across the district.

I retired from Unocal in 1997 after 23 years. My expertise was in corporate planning and project management. I have a BA/MChE (Chemical Engineering/Economics) from Rice University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. I support strengthening the district's curricula, and I have been working with Caltech staff to improve PUSD's science facilities. PUSD should concentrate on education and let other government and local non-profits provide social and health services.
