Ensuring access to technology at Community Colleges for all students is priorityAs a business executive in the burgeoning wireless industry, I understand the importance of offering and accessing state-of-the-art technology in all aspects of life. As the future College Trustee representing Oxnard and Port Hueneme, I will be a champion for increasing the use of technology for both teaching and student learning. I applaud the efforts and investment of the college instructors and the district office over the last 1 and 1/2 years that provided the necessary infrastructure. Now, we must allow for all instruction to utilize technology in teaching! Think of it this way: a History class would be able to conduct research and learn about local, national and world history by accessing data bases, and perhaps, the libraries of the world on the "web". And, a student preparing for his/her semester at Oxnard College could check registration as well as register for coursework "on-line" from their home computer. All students, whether they be computer science majors or not, should have access to computers, the Internet and knowledgeable instructors who can teach with the technology in any discipline offered at each of our 3 community colleges. Let's make sure we bridge the "digital divide" with the use of technology in all classrooms at Oxnard, Moorpark and Ventura Colleges. -Sylvia |
