Open Space is Enjoyed and ProtectedBy Mike MarkeyCandidate for Member of the City Council; City of Thousand Oaks | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Thousand Oaks is curently at build out and our open space has been protected for all to enjoy. The City of Thousand Oaks incorporated in 1967, and made sure there would be plentiful amounts of open space for all to enjoy. The City Council established the Conejo Open Space and Conservancy Agency, (COSCA). COSCA was established to protect the open space that you love and enjoy from any development, now or in the future. The agency is made of a five (5) member board. There are two representatives from the City and two representatives from the Park and Recreation District. The other member is a citizen of our community. This board is mandated with the operation and maintenance of our open space. Our community has over 15,000 acres of protected open space, which encompasses 1/3 of the City. None of this land can be developed or built on, including our ridge lines. The City has one of the most stringent ridge line ordinances in the nation. So when you look around at our wonderful hills and ridge lines, remember we protected it for you to enjoy. We moved here because of the wonderful community, parks and open space. Work with me to continue to maintain our excellent quality of life. |
