I want to make government work for San Diego. I want to create a higher quality of life by balancing the needs of the economy, the environment, and the infrastructure.

I believe in a limited central government vs. a "Big Daddy" government. In a limited government, governmental power and resources are kept close to the people through their community leaders and local elected representatives. I believe in a competitive free-enterprise system in which people are free to use their talents to achieve success. I believe in cutting taxes and reducing government spending to eliminate government waste and pork-barrel programs. I believe in freedom and the opportunity to pursue the "American Dream" of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I have chosen to run for the State Legislature because, in 1999, the Legislature passed bill after bill that was harmful to California's business climate, that increased government regulation and control of our lives, or that undermined community and family values. I have reached the time in my life where I want to work for my beliefs and give back to the community that has given so many opportunities to me.

As a small business owner, former teacher, and graduate from San Diego's LEAD (Leadership, Education, Awareness, Development) program, I have the background, experience, and leadership skills to be an effective legislator working for the benefit of San Diego and of California as a whole. I have worked as a volunteer in many organizations, helping others in many areas. Now I want to use my talents, time, and energy to benefit others in a broader capacity by serving in the State Legislature. I have the ability to see the "big picture," and can envision a balance between the needs of the economy, the environment, and infrastructure, which would create a higher quality of life. In the past, I have been able to inspire people with such a vision, and have demonstrated my ability to build consensus within groups and organizations in order to accomplish goals to achieve it.
