Mayor Suzanne (Sue) Jackson - A Biography

Sue Jackson's dedication to her community, her talent for innovation, and her leadership skills are reflected in everything she does. She is serving her second term on the Monte Sereno City Council and has twice served as Mayor (current). In that capacity and as a result of her concern with public safety and quality of life, Sue spearheaded the Hillside Safety and Evacuation Plan, benefiting the citizens of Monte Sereno and hillside residents in Los Gatos and Saratoga. She also established her city's first Open Space Task Force. She represents her city as Vice Chair on the county Emergency Preparedness Council and serves on the League of California Cities Public Safety Policy Committee. Sue was elected by the councilmembers of the 14 other cities to be their representative, and currently is Chair of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO).

Trained as a Registered Nurse, Sue was a clinical instructor in a teaching hospital, then served as an operating room Head Nurse. She has earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Redlands (CA), and has taken graduate courses in psychology at San Jose State University and in Finance and Management at Stanford.

Currently, Sue is a medical and health education coordinator. She serves on the boards of the county Domestic Violence Council, Medical Association Alliance and the Medical Society's External Affairs Committee. In recognition of significant contribution in the health field, Sue was awarded the medical society's Citizen's Award in 1997.

A past state president of the California Medical Association Alliance she continues to serve on that board and on the board of the Community Health Foundation. Sue is a highly regarded statewide spokesperson on medical and domestic violence issues and has recently established a statewide violence awareness and aversion program for grades 6-12 school children. In 1997, she received the Belle Chenault Award from the American Medical Association Alliance for political activism in California.

As an active Republican, Sue has been involved in numerous party activities and has actively fundraised for numerous Republican candidates. First elected to the Santa Clara County Republican Central Committee in 1994, she served as Vice-Chair from 1998 - 2000. She co-chaired the Dole-Kemp campaign in the county in 1996 and was an alternate to the National Convention. She serves on the California Republican Party Platform and the Health and Welfare Committees. In addition, she has served on the board of the California Republican League and is a member of the Lincoln Club of Northern California. Sue has recently been elected to serve as a delegate(CD-15) to the Republican National Convention/2000 in Philadelphia.

Because of her outstanding community and political leadership, Sue received the Santa Clara County 1998 Woman of Achievement Award (Elected Public Official) from the Santa Clara Women's Fund.
