I'm Jack Hickey, Libertarian Candidate for State Senate District 11.

Originally from Valley Stream, New York, I settled in California in 1957 after four years in the U.S.Navy. My Navy electronics training led to a career in high tech. I am a retired Senior Research Scientist with 28 patents.

My interest in politics began in 1964 as a Goldwater supporter in Hawthorne California. I followed that with local activity as Chairman of the Hawthorne Citizen's Committee to Protect Private Property, which successfully used the process of Referendum to overturn an Urban Renewal Ordinance. Abuse of eminent domain was the issue.

In 1965, I moved my family to the unincorporated area West of Redwood City which is now known as Emerald Hills.

In 1979, inspired by the Prop. 13 success of Jarvis and Gann, I authored and pursued an Initiative Constitutional Amendment called the "Hickey-Canfield - Performance Voucher Initiative". While my statewide campaign and $50,000 of personal funds did not qualify that measure for the ballot, it did provide a foundation for my later efforts as a taxpayers advocate.

In 1982, I used my statewide exposure to run as a "limited government" candidate for U.S. Senate in the Republican primary. Thirteen candidates were seeking to replace Senator S.I. Hayakawa.

In 1984, as the Republican nominee for Congress on a $5,000 budget, I garnered 29% of the vote against incumbent Tom Lantos.

In 1991, I led the effort to defeat Measure A, the 1/2% county sales tax known as the "Best Schools Proposal". It is notable that Measure A only required a simple majority vote for passage.

I participated in the grassroot lobbying effort to put government records on-line.

In 1998, I was a candidate for the Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District, campaigning against abuse of eminent domain powers in the Russian Nun fiasco.

In 1999, I succesfully led a campaign to defeat the $148 million San Mateo County Community College District bond measure.

I am an active supporter of the 2/3 vote requirement.

I am a pro-life/pro-family Libertarian. See http://www.L4L.org.
