EDUCATION

Glendale schools gave Dario the tools he needed to succeed in life. But today's students aren't getting the same quality education. There are too many untrained teachers without credentials and too many overcrowded schools with inadequate materials.

"As a community college instructor, I know first hand the challenges facing our schools and students. I will cut red tape and make sure that we build new schools as quickly as possible. As your Assemblyman, I will push for better teacher training and recruitment -- and I will not be satisfied until every school is on-line and every child has current textbooks."

PRESERVING OUR COMMUNITIES

Dario will fight to preserve and acquire open space and protect our communities from over-development, pollution and noise. He opposes the Oakmont V development and worked to secure funding in the state budget to buy the property. Dario supports Governor Davis' Park Bond measure. "As a kid, I hiked the Verdugos and Griffith Park. Those hills and our unique neighborhoods are part of what make this such a special place to live. As your Assemblyman, I will fight to protect our communities from overzealous developers, and to acquire and preserve more open space."

REFORMING HEALTHCARE

There are too many horror stories about healthcare providers, not only from patients but from doctors. Dario believes that any HMO reform bill must give patients the right to sue HMO's, must address the needs of our seniors and reduce the cost of health care for everyone.

"Healthcare decisions should be made by doctors, not bean counters. When a member of your family is ill, the last thing you want to hear is that an administrator has refused to approve doctor-recommended care. As your Assemblyman, I'll insist that doctors have the final say on what's best for patients."

PROTECTING OUR NEIGHBORHOODS

While crime in our communities has gone down in recent years thanks to tougher penalties, we must continue to provide law enforcement agencies with the necessary support to keep crime out of our neighborhoods. Dario wants to focus more resources on community policing efforts and gang and drug intervention programs. He has received the endorsement of the California Professional Firefighters, the Los Angeles County Firefighters, the Burbank Firefighters, the Los Angeles Police Protective League and the California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations, representing over 90,000 law enforcement officers.

"I applaud the Governor for signing America's toughest ban on assault weapons. But we must do more to protect our neighborhoods. As your Assemblyman, I will work with local law enforcement to check the rising juvenile crime rate and to ensure that our kids are not afraid to go to school."
