HEALTH CAREBy Dave CogdillCandidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 25 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Dave Cogdill desires adequate health care for all. Dave believes that health care choices are primarily a matter of personal liberty. Dave believes that market solutions are the most appropriate means of meeting rising health care costs. Dave supports legislation designed to create private sector solutions, such as small business group insurance reforms, self-employment premium deductions and medical savings accounts. Dave Cogdill opposes government-mandated health insurance plans, which would increase national health insurance costs by well over $100 billion a year, and recognizes that a government-controlled plan would surrender forever the freedom Californians now enjoy to make personal decisions about their health care and well-being. Dave opposes nationalized, single-payer or socialized health care as well as all efforts to federalize health care. Dave Cogdill opposes the current system that allows for seniors in the urban and more populated areas to receive lower premiums for HMO supplemental Medicare insurance rates than the rural areas. Dave Cogdill wants to provide tax credits to individuals and small businesses to encourage greater consumer choice and competition in health care. Ultimately, the way to increase HMO accountability to consumers is to make them compete more for customers. This will ensure HMO responsiveness to consumers' desires and needs. |
