Political Philosophy for Pia C. Jensen

It is incumbent upon all registered voters to do their part in the electoral process - anything from simply voting to becoming fully prepared and knowing your choices and publicly supporting the issues and candidates you feel strongly about. Far too many times landslide elections are conducted with fewer than half of the registrered voters - don't let this year's Presidential election be the same as usual ! I strongly encourage you to become familiar with your representatives - see what happens in Cotati, for example, every second and fourth Wednesday of each month, at 7 pm, 201 West Sierra Avenue, Cotati. It's time to take an active role, vote, drive others to the polling booths, campaign for your favorite concern, read the votes of each incumbent, get familiar with who has been conducting business in your jurisdiction - http://www.ci.cotati.ca.us is where you'll find my votes in the posted minutes, for example. Talk to your representatives - all too often I wonder why so few ask me about my thoughts prior to a decision - don't let us vote without knowing your thoughts any longer ! Besides that, I believe in strict accountability at all levels of governance. I believe that land is more precious than we realize and that it needs to be valued using environmental/economic formulas. I believe that business is good only if it allows for diversity, has low to no impacts that can be mitigated and fits within our General Plan, besides bringing in money to the City coffers. I believe that Cotati is a wonderful town in which many people of great diversity can find peace and quiet and that we need to protect these qualities through strong citizen participation as we have seen the past few years. |
