Maintaining Financial StabilityBy Dave EvansCandidate for Governing Board Member; Healdsburg Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
School districts must live within their means while providing quality education to all students.I have served four years on the District Budget Committee that is comprised of parents, teachers, classified staff and administrative staff. In 1997 we cut over $1 million and another $800,000 in 1998 due primarily to declining enrollment. The cuts were made without directly affecting students. This year we will carefully examine the budget for additional cuts to help fund salary increases for teachers and classified staff. Each year the state requires our $17 million budget be independently audited to ensure our expenditures do not exceed revenues. Deficit spending is not an option. In order to provide the quality of education and good campus facilities, careful thought must be given to managing the District's money. The Budget Committee, our administrative staff and the Board of Trustees have kept the Disrict financially stable while providing quality education for each of the 4 years I have served on the Board. |
