Jim Bertoli was born September 28, 1960, to Bert & Lona Bertoli at Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa, and except for those few days at Memorial, has called Sebastopol his home. Jim has three sisters, Carolyn, Dina & Mia, who were kind enough to give him a female perspective anytime he needed. Throughout Jim's childhood, he was active in 4-H, Little league and Senior League. In 1972 his 4-H Climatology project was deemed the most outstanding in the State of California. Jim graduated from Analy High School where he was active in student government, student organization and athletics. He was involved in such organizations as Interact, the American Field Service, and the California Scholastic Federation in which he is a life member due to his academic achievement. He lettered in football and baseball for the Tigers, as well. Jim graduated from Analy in 1978 in the top of his 300-member class. After receiving a Doyle Scholarship, Jim began his college studies at the Santa Rosa Junior College. While working toward his degree in economics with an emphasis in labor and agriculture, Jim remained active in the Sonoma County community, working on many political campaigns for local candidates. While Jim completed his studies attending the University of San Francisco School of Law, he served as law clerk for the Legal Department of the California Teachers Association. In 1985 he graduated from USF and in the summer of 1985 he took the California Bar Exam, passing on his first attempt. Jim was sworn in as an attorney on January 4, 1986 by the Honorable Lawrence "Gary" Antolini, Sonoma County Superior Court Judge. Jim has devoted his career to representing the working families of Sonoma County, the teachers family farmers, police officers, firefighters, union members and senior citizens. Jim's practice has taken him to almost every county in Northern California. He has practiced before the federal court in Northern California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal and the United States Bankruptcy Court. Jim recently had the privilege of successfully arguing the first case the California First District Court of Appeal ever held outside of it's courtroom. |
