Political Philosophy for Lloyd Reeves

Roughly 4 out of 10 high school students will not be going to college. That's about 1,200 out of 3,000 not going to college. And what have we done for these kids? Are they prepared to enter a decent job market or will they be working a dead end minimum wage job? I got into this race for 1 reason and 1 reason only. And that is to reintroduce vocational education back into the system.
To accomplish this: 1st - The local school board needs to pressure the State Board of Education to allow alternate exit exams for vocational & special education programs, instead of the single college prep exit exam that every senior will be required to pass by the year 2004! 2nd - We need to create a vocational education setting within the school system or start an apprentice program where the student would spend half their day in the private sector and the other half a day in the school system meeting their general ed requirements. |
