Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Manteca Unified School District; Trustee Area 1

I have been involved in education and community service for over 40 years. I am currently 61 years old. My wife Mary Jo and I have two children who attended Manteca Schools and are both college graduates. Mary Jo is a UC-Berkeley grad and in the San Jose State MLIS program. I have been active in the Weston Ranch Community and Manteca schools for 7 years. I am retired from the City of Oakland Police Department and was also a sportwriter and editor in the Bay Area and have been a student teacher and recreation director. I received my AA in social science in 1962. Acting upon my strong belief that education is vital, ongoing and for everyone, I am currently completing a double major (history and sociology) at the University of the Pacific. I have completed all general education requirements (with honors) and have enough units for a BA in December, but will need to take one upper division sociology class and two upper division history classes to complete the double major. My wife is the evening and weekend coordinator for the University of the Pacific Libraries and I am vice-chairperson of the City of Stockton Civil Service Commission. My daughter Sally is internet and warranty manager for Berberian European Motors in Stockton and my son Daniel is an officer in the United States Marine Corps. They and my wife encouraged me to run for school board four years ago. I finished a close second in a three-way campaign with some 4,500 votes and am happy to see the district has finally added some of the improvements I campaigned for at the time. I am a United States Navy veteran and American Legion member, and have been active as a Big Brother and volunteer for United Cerebral Palsy and Boy Scouts. I was Commissioner of Student Involvement for the ASUOP of the University of the Pacific. I am a member of UC-Davis Cal Aggies.
