Beryl Magilavy fought beside Rescue Muni for the Muni reform package, helped save the Octavia Boulevard and led the fight to keep a Rite-Aid off Hayes Street. She has served as founding director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment and Chair of the San Francisco Sierra Club, and brought over 300 community organizations together to create the visionary San Francisco Sustainability Plan that was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 1997. A Hayes Valley resident, she has been a volunteer math tutor for disadvantaged youth at the Zen Center and recently was named a "woman making history" by the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women. Beryl Magilavy has lived in San Francisco since 1972, where she has been a tenant and supporter of renter's rights for 20 years and now manages a four-unit Victorian owned by her family. She is president of an environmental non-profit organization. Her professional background includes work in applied physics research at NASA and personnel management in the electronics industry. |
