MAYDA WINTER Mayda Winter was born in a small coastal community in Connecticut on Sept. 10, 1951. She attended high school and college in her home state and continued her education in San Diego after moving to Coronado in 1972. She and her husband Ted, a native Californian, have been South Bay residents for over 20 years and Imperial Beach homeowners since 1992, choosing I.B. as their home for it's small town atmosphere and warm sense of community. Mayda has a 27-year-old stepson, Ted Jr. who resides in San Diego. Mayda has served the City of Imperial Beach since 1994, when she was appointed to the Architectural Design Review Board and member of the Neighborhood Revitalization Committee. Her strong commitment to community participation led to her election to the City Council in 1996. During the past fours years she has served one term as the Mayor Pro-Tem and currently represents the City of Imperial Beach on the Metro Wastewater Commission and AFFORD (Agencies for Fair and Objective Rate Determination) and COBRO (Committee on Bi-national Regional Opportunities). She also sits as an alternate on SANDAG (San Diego Association of Governments), ARJIS and the Bay Route Bike Path Policy Committee and serves as the Council liaison for the Imperial Beach Chamber of Commerce and Job Corps. Council sub-committee work includes Neighborhood Revitalization Oversight, Vision Planning Process and Secondary Sewage Treatment for the international plant - a particular area of focus for Mayda. As Co-chair of the Imperial Beach Chili & Jazz Association, she works year-round with an all-volunteer committee (including her husband) to stage the Imperial Beach Chili & Jazz Festival, the second largest special event in Imperial Beach. Mayda is also an Executive Board member of the South Bay Union School District Education Foundation and the Imperial Beach Woman's Club. Mayda Winter works as an environmental restoration project manager for the Southwest Wetlands Interpretive Association, a non-profit group dedicated to the protection and restoration of coastal wetlands. |
