I view the school board as a nonpartisan board. School board members must work to build common ground. In our great Republic when consensus cannot be reached by problem solving, compromise or bargaining a political solution is invariably invoked by voting. Under this model you win sometimes and lose sometimes but life goes on. When logic leads one to conclude that life is a meaningless accident, give up on logic and not life.

Religion with its vices and virtues has always played a role in our political life. To me there is no conflict between religion and science. Science is nothing more than the normal working of the mind. Religion is the source of spiritual and ethical teaching. Our founding fathers would conclude that no religious belief should be given preference. Your religious view may be correct. We are not sure. The first amendment implies that anyone is permitted to be sure in their own mind and others may disagree. It does not follow that religion should be ignored. Can one be educated without knowing of the impact of religion on art, music, science, literature, history, architecture and philosophy? I think not.
