A school board by definition is one which not only acts to set policy for the district administration but also acts as a conduit of information to and from the community. This way, the community can share in the decision making process and be comfortable with the the path set by the board. As a master teacher in the Sweetwater District right now, I have the experience and knowledge to be an expert voice for sound, quality education on the board. My experience in the curriculum process, district leadership, teacher support and assessment as well as in the classroom will give a unique perspective to board deliberations. As a parent with three children in this district right now, I have the responsibility to you and your children to make sure that every decision I make is an informed one, that every significant decision has had community input generated from their access to information available from the district. I have a good feel for what is important to this community, and if I have questions, I will not be afraid to come to you and ask for your opinion. My experience as a mentor teacher, instructional leader, and involved parent have taught me to value the importance of literacy across the curriculum; the importance of a strong fine arts program in every school; the necessity of addressing the needs of every student in our district regardless of their perceived strengths, condition or disability, the value of strong morals, and the obligation of every parent to be involved in their child's education, including helping with homework, supporting their school, and becoming an informed citizen. As a member of the governing board, I will showrespect for the parents and their knowledge and desires, and respect for the work and needs of the employees, both certificated and classified. I can only offer my core values and best efforts to you, the people of El Cajon. Thank you. |
