Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dan Wood

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Santa Cruz City School District; Trustee Area 2

My top three priorities are:

1. I believe we need to build a climate of action on the school board that enables our students to thrive in a fast-paced world. By implementing strategic programs that emphasize clear goals and measurable objectives, instead of inefficient bureaucracy, we will energize the important process of educating our children.

2. A higher level of accountability is needed. This community must hold the board trustees, district administration, and teachers accountable for implementing programs that promote academic excellence. We must also hold students and parents accountable for taking advantage of the resources available to them. Finally, the community-at-large must support this great endeavor.

3. We must exercise a higher level of fiscal responsibility and seek alternate revenue sources. Strategic and efficient financial planning for future budget realities is essential in order to retain well-paid qualified teachers, enhance our schools with new technologies and safety measures, and expand our sports and arts programs.
