I believe that education is the ladder of upward social mobility. Without a sound education students will not become full, contributing members of society. High school dropouts are likely to become welfare recipients or even encarcerated in our prisons.

Public schools have a tremendous obligation to provide a quality education for every student. The test scores of the Santa Cruz City Schools have not shown an appreciable improvement over the past six years. They have been stuck at a mediocre 50th percentile level.I refuse to believe that students from poor families or who speak a different language cannot learn.

If elected, I hope to work with all segments of our educational community to raise achievement test scores. Our students deserve no less.
