Where Evan Stands on Town Issues On Fair and Accountable Government: Evan strongly feels that a fair and objective interpretation of our Town ordinances and municipal code should direct the positions and rulings of the Council and Planning Commission. Past politicizing and subjectivity have lead to unsatisfied residents who did not feel our laws protected their interests. Evan feels that local government must be accountable to the residents and that Council decisions must be predictable and consistent with our municipal code. On Televising City Council and Planning Commission Meetings: Evan has been a member of the Utility and Information Committee since its inception and spearheaded the effort to televise City Council and Planning Commission Meetings. His proposal is currently under staff review to be implemented later this year. Evan strongly believes that televising City Council and Planning Commission meetings will help residents better understand how our Town government operates. On Pathway Management: The Los Altos Hills pathway system has a unique place in the history of our town and Evan strongly supports along-the-road paths and the existing "in-use" off-road paths. Evan supports making new off road pathway dedications voluntary except for key connections between existing "in-use" paths. On Updating the Town's General Plan: The General Plan, which sets up a framework for all aspects of Town planning, is currently out of date with the last full update in 1975. Evan believes the current effort to update the plan needs to reflect the majority viewpoint of residents. He will help direct a more modern understandable document that accurately reflects the Town majority and serves as a realistic guideline for our future. On 21st Century Services and Infrastructure: Evan understands that we have a wonderfully unique and beautiful Town because of our rolling hills, valleys and large lot sizes. The spread-out nature of our Town has lead to challenges and delays in receiving the latest technologies such as cable for broadband Internet connectivity. Evan believes it is the Council's responsibility to develop a strong proactive plan to facilitate utility providers in bringing 21st century services to our Town. Since only a small portion of our Town's utilities are under-grounded, and many residents lack access to cable television, sewers, and reliable high-speed Internet connectivity, Evan feels an urgency to develop and implement changes for these needed services. Evan supports the effort to underground our utilities, which will add to the beauty of our town by removing overhead power lines and poles, and will also provide safer reliable power, and needed conduit to property sites for broadband Internet connections. Although the Town has accumulated over $11M in reserves, they are not being effectively used to meet the growing needs of the community. Evan would like to spend some of this reserve to help with much-needed Town improvements, while maintaining adequate reserves for unforeseen emergencies. On Parks and Recreation: Evan is fully supportive of the newly created Parks and Recreation Committee. He would like to see expanded programs for families and children as well as our deserving seniors. On his agenda would be the creation of a more park-like atmosphere at one of the Town's open space preserves that is user-friendly to all age groups. |
