Patricia "Trish" Dixon is a native resident of the Bay Area, born in Alameda, California. She met her future husband, Gary, while they were attending Sacramento State University. They were married in 1971 and made their home in Milpitas in May 1976 where they began their family. Today their two children are grown adults, Heather Marie Dixon, 26 and married to Robert Pagan and Christopher Martin Dixon, 22. Both Heather and Christopher attended Milpitas public schools from Milpitas Christian Pre-School through Milpitas High School. Patricia began her chosen career path of public service to Milpitas in 1978 as a teacher's aide and a parent volunteer at St. Elizabeth, Sinnott Elementary, Milpitas Little League, PAL soccer to name just a few. In 1982, Mrs. Dixon became even more politically active when she and another Parktown resident asked the City and Shapell Industries to work with the Parktown neighborhood in the development of the former SCC college campus site that Shapell had purchased to build homes on. This was the first time ever this type of partnership occurred in Milpitas. That development today is called Hillcrest. Now with a reputation of dedication for benefit of the community, Mrs. Dixon again was called upon to organize the effort to bring a quality grocery store back to Milpitas. It turned out to be a hard fought campaign because of the location on Jacklin and Escuela near Milpitas High School. Through hard work and determination the Nob Hill (Foothill Shopping Center) campaign succeeded and is almost 14 years today, still a beautiful, clean center for all to enjoy. By 1988, the dedication to cause and political experience of working with the community so closely drew the attention of political leaders. Mrs. Dixon was asked to work for then Mayor Bob Livengood in his attempt to win a seat on the SCC Board of Supervisors. At the same time she also worked tirelessly on Planning Commissioner Jim Lawson's attempt to win a Council seat. Mr. Livengood lost to Ron Gonzales, but Mr. Lawson won. This began the political career of Mrs. Dixon. Since then, she worked again on the campaigns of Livengood, Lawson, McHugh, Skyrud, Lee and Polanski. In 1989, Patricia and resident Maria Lemery requested of the City Council to stop hillside sprawl and review the Hillside Ordinance. They were soon appointed to the Hillside Ordinance Review Committee. After 2 1/2 years, the Ordinance was amended from 1 home per acre to 1 home per 4 acres. When Mrs. Dixon was appointed to the Milpitas Planning Commission in 1991 she pledged to tighten up the Ordinance further. In 1992, Mrs. Dixon made the motion for adoption to reduce density further to 1 home per 10 to 80 acres. This was officially adopted by Pete McHugh, Skip Skyrud and Barbara Lee. Aside from politics, passion for education was never far from Patricia Dixon's desire to better her own children's education. In 1990, she and several parents co-founded the Milpitas Foundation for Education. The goal was to seek donations to disperse to the classroom level through small grants and donations to further enhance education. Mrs. Dixon has served as President of the Foundation since 1995. To date the Foundation has donated well in excess of $100,000 to Milpitas Public Schools, including $25,000 towards equipment for the new Math/Science Building at Milpitas High School. The Milpitas Unified School District again tapped Patricia Dixon's energy and devotion for education when they requested that she form the Friends of Milpitas Schools to help pass the Measure B campaign to renovate all 13 public schools. After a year of hard work, the Measure won voter approval by 82%. The following highlights summarize Patricia "Trish" Dixon's experience, qualifications and dedication through public service for Milpitas and all it's residents and businesses. Experience:
