Thank you all for your support during the last election, which was only five months ago. It is time for another one! I am still running on the same platform. I have always been fair, sensitive, and have handled projects with common sense and reason. I have worked well with my fellow council members, the planning commissioners, the staff and most importantly you the residents. I have done quite a lot for our town in the last five months. I would be honored to have your vote on November 7.
Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you all for your support during the last election, which was only five months ago. It is time for another one! I am still running on the same platform. I have always been fair, sensitive, and have handled projects with common sense and reason. I have worked well with my fellow council members, the planning commissioners, the staff and most importantly you the residents. I have done quite a lot for our town in the last five months. I would be honored to have your vote on November 7.

What I have done during the past five months:

  • Parks & Recreation Committee. I initiated the creation of the Parks and Recreation Committee, which is dedicated to developing new recreational programs and activities for families and their children. This Committee has overwhelming support from the residents. We already have quite a few summer programs for children and adults, like the Horsemanship Camp, Ohlone Indian Camp, Artist Seminar, Dog Hike, Dog Obedience class etc. These programs will continue year round, since there is great demand from our residents.

  • Improved Building Process. With my election, we appointed two new planning commissioners, who are dedicated to applying the ordinances to all residents in a fair and consistent manner, thus following council direction to reduce subjectivity and personal opinion. I am pleased to tell you that the fast-track ordinance, which allows projects to by-pass the planning commission approval if the project meets all ordinances with no neighborhood opposition, has been very successful.

  • Pathway Management. Los Altos Hills has a unique pathway system, which is a major attraction and asset of our town. I have strongly supported roadside paths and want to make sure they are better maintained. And, I have voted against requiring new off-road pathways that the property owners have objected to. My vote supports a voluntary off-road pathway policy which is what the majority of residents support because it guarantees them privacy and security in their own homes.

  • Technology Infrastructure. I continue to support having the latest technological advancements in communications, the development of an underground utilities plan (under study), broadband Internet connectivity, and televising Council and Planning Commission meetings.

  • Update Land Use Element of the General Plan. I support keeping residents informed through town-wide mailings. I believe the Council should represent the majority of residents, not the viewpoint of a vocal minority. The town is in the process of rewriting the land use element of the general plan. We are working on the town-wide survey, to be sent out to the residents before the end of this year. I support using the results of the survey to rewrite the general plan.

I have enclosed a fact sheet regarding myself. It would be an honor and a privilege for me to add your name to my supporters. I have enclosed a self-addressed envelope for your convenience.

Your thoughts and ideas are important to me. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding any concerns or issues that you may have.

Warm regards,

Emily Cheng, Councilmember
