Measure G--Moratorium on Conversion of Commercial land to Residential

By Stan Bogosian

Candidate for Council Member; City of Saratoga

This information is provided by the candidate
Saratoga needs the time to start economic revitalization of our commercial districts before they are all gone.
The few remaining commercial districts of Saratoga are under a real threat of conversion to high-density residential development. One doesn't have to look very far in the Gateway area along Saratoga-Sunnyvale Roador the Village to see how many of our commercial districts have been lost. Only about 150 acres out of a total of 7000 acres in Saratoga today remain commercial. I support this moratorium simply because it gives the City the time to implement the economic revitalization measture that will ensure the health of our commercial districts.

As Saratoga's revenue sources are limited, we can't afford to lose the revenue from commercial retail. Nor can the schools, streets, and neighborhoods afford the impacts of additional high-density residential development. If approved by the voters, the moratorium will continue until March of 2001.
